CI The Quant Fund is an open-ended equity fund distinguished by its quantitative investment approach, relying on specialized mathematical and statistical models to select investments and determine portfolio weightings.
The fund aims to achieve medium- to long-term capital growth by building a portfolio of Egyptian listed equities that demonstrate attractive risk-adjusted return characteristics, with a focus on identifying defensive stocks that may help reduce the impact of sharp market downturns.
CI The Quant is the sixth issuance of CI Asset Management’s multi-issuance Sector Fund, which specializes in investing in sector-focused equities and specialized investment funds.
The fund’s strategy is based on analyzing historical stock price data, trading volumes, liquidity levels, and risk indicators to construct a portfolio of equities exhibiting defensive characteristics and favorable risk-adjusted returns.
The investment process consists of two main stages: first, selecting eligible stocks based on predefined quantitative criteria; and second, determining optimal portfolio weightings using models designed to achieve an effective balance between return and risk. Portfolio holdings are reviewed and rebalanced quarterly, or whenever significant market developments occur.
According to the prospectus, up to 95% of the issuance’s assets may be invested in equities listed on the Egyptian Exchange, with the investment manager having the flexibility to reduce this allocation to 60% when deemed appropriate. In addition, up to 40% of assets may be allocated to treasury bills, treasury bonds, and government-guaranteed securities, while up to 40% may be invested in bank deposits, savings instruments, and other low-risk assets.
The fund may also invest up to 20% of its assets in money market funds, provided that its holdings do not exceed 5% of the units of any single fund. Furthermore, up to 10% of the assets may be invested in other investment instruments subject to approval by the Financial Regulatory Authority.
