FAQ
What is the typical EGX broker commission?
Egyptian brokers charge 0.15%-0.5% per transaction (buy or sell). Large brokers (EFG Hermes, CI Capital) offer lower rates for high-volume clients. Commission is contractually negotiated.
What are the EGX fees on stocks?
Besides broker commission, stamp duty is 0.05% on the buyer and 0.05% on the seller, or 0.025% each when the buy and sell happen in the same session (Law 153 of 2026). The calculator includes it automatically. Some brokers add exchange, clearing and FRA fees to the invoice; include those in the commission.
Is there capital gains tax in Egypt?
From the 29 July 2026 session, Law 153 of 2026 restored stamp duty on trades in listed shares in place of the capital gains tax. A profitable sale carries no tax on the gain itself; the duty is charged on the value of each buy and sell. Cash dividends are taxed separately.
When is a stock actually profitable after fees?
A stock is truly profitable when the price rise exceeds round-trip costs. At 0.4% commission and 0.05% stamp duty each way, about 0.9% in total, the stock must rise about 1% before you earn anything.
